“Undocumented workers” soon to partake in an undocumented boycott

What better way to solve our 12 million “undocumented workers” problem than by taking a population count that says they don’t exist?

The Census is known as the definitive head count that is supposed to reflect the makeup of the country.

But now some Latino leaders want illegal immigrants to boycott the national survey, claiming that being counted — but not represented — isn’t fair.

“It doesn’t make any sense, in some way it is immoral that we are counting 12 million undocumented immigrants who have no benefit at all financially speaking,” said Rev. Miguel Rivera, president of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders.

It doesn’t make sense “financially” for them to be counted in the census? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only financial benefit for anyone being counted in the census is that some federal funds are allocated based on population numbers of different regions. Is Mr. Rivera saying that illegal immigrants who live in cities, go to schools, and drive on roads aren’t going to benefit as much from federal funds as legal immigrants or citizens? In what looney world does that argument make sense?

Rivera’s call for a “boycott” is absurdly hysterical, so let me make sure I understand his position correctly: it is unfair that the federal government has not changed its laws in order to appease the people who broke them, and they should therefore boycott the census and deprive themselves of federal money that they shouldn’t legally be able to take advantage of anyway.

Uh, okay?
