Since when is a 19-year-old ex-boyfriend of a politician’s daughter a credible source?
July 10th, 2009 by Rightwing Czar at 12:47 pmThis is shameful character assassination, plain and simple. And it’s what we’d expect when reporting about Sarah Palin.

“Since when is a 19-year-old ex-boyfriend of a politician’s daughter a credible source?”
Since he knew the Palin family for years and is as good a character witness as any…
Since he was in the Palin family presence often and privy to their conversations…
Since he was Palin’s daughter’s boyfriend for over a year and was allowed to sleep in her room regularly…
Since he is the father of Palin’s grandchild…
How exactly is he NOT a credible source?
Please stop pointing fingers at news sources for “spinning” when you yourself are named “the rightwing czar”. How exactly does that make you unbiased in this story? hmmmmmm

probably when he is an inside source…

Steve,
Levi clearly has an agenda here and any clear-thinking, objective onlooker would realize that a 19-year-old probably doesn’t have the maturity level to comment on the mother of his ex-fiance when they have been broken up for less than a year. Come on, Steve. Get real. Do you really think a recently broken-up teenager should be viewed as a credible source when commenting about his ex-fiance’s mom? That’s insane.
And to address your point about my bias: when did I say I was unbiased? I’m commenting. I’m offering my opinion. That’s what I’m selling here. News organizations like CNN market themselves as objective providers of news – reporting the fact, not their opinions. There’s a big difference between saying you are an objective source of information and being biased, and saying you are giving your opinion and being biased. Surely you understand the difference?

I definitely think this kid has an agenda and probably does not have the maturity to deal with the situations he manages to (somehow) get himself into.
That said however, if none of what he has said is true, why not get an injunction or sue him for slander?
The best defense against defamation of character is telling the truth…

John, it’s incredibly difficult for famous people to sue for slander and defamation. Not to mention costly. Read about it here: http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2007/11/06/defamation-part-3-public-v-private-figures/
The best defense against defamation is having an international news organization know that a 19-year-old who just broke up with his fiance isn’t the best source of information about her mother. It’s common sense.
